I really liked watching Babil and Amrit’s on-screen kinship. They describe brotherhood, and considering that this is the main thing Friday Night Plans needs to show, it’s not disappointing. Yet, prior to this, the content and account have been exceptionally scattered, and practically aimless.
At various points you will wonder – is this about the mother-child bond? Is it about the fights and feelings that happened in middle school? Is this about a party that has destroyed itself? Is it about how young people should be competent? Is it about parenting? Or on the other hand, it’s just Friday and there’s an arrangement that could have been avoided! Similarly there is also a sentiment point which is given less importance, but after a point, it turns into a discarded subplot which never gets enough focus in the content.
The short 1 hour film may not seem long but for the most part, it tries to keep you engaged. There is a unique moment where Sid reveals to his younger brother that after their father passed away, their mother has done a lot for them, so they should be able to do more.
Knowing how strongly Babil is probably attached to this inclination after the adverse end of his father Irrfan, the film does not equate with the scene. We were never told who their father was or what kind of situation the children had with him. In fact, even with his mother, everything remains on a surface level and never reaches the point where it shocks you.
