He is often bullied at school and has no friends or social activities. At some point, Peter chooses to stay inside during break, and receives some kindness from his substitute teacher, Miss Devine. Despite a plan to go door-to-door asking for sweets on Halloween night, a young child’s disappearance some time ago led to a ban by his parents.
Devine becomes concerned after seeing the image Peter had of Sarah asking for help in a dingy room. After meeting with Peter’s people, they disown him and later, Peter’s mother stands up and reprimands him for bringing his daydream to public scrutiny. Sarah continues to tell Peter that his people are bad people.
Both his friends vehemently deny these events and demand that he is imagining them. Over the next few days, Peter continues to interact with the shocking substance, whom he learns is named “Sarah”. Sarah claims that Peter’s men had her elected into the Walls, calling her “evil”; and leaving Peter upset.
